Thank you for inviting me to partner with you in your holistic care! Please be aware of the following policies and considerations as we work together.
24-hr notice is required for cancellations. You may be expected to pay for your full session if you cancel with less notice, based on circumstances. That said, if you are sick, or if it is dangerous for you to drive, (as in the case of migraines, side-effects of certain medications or some medical issues) please reschedule!
If you are running late, please send me a text or give me a call. Your appointment may still end at the scheduled time, though I will try to accommodate when possible. If the session is shortened due to your lateness, you will still be charged the full amount.
If tardiness or cancellations become habitual, I may require holding a credit card number when scheduling.
I work with many people who are elders or who have medical complexities. Strong scents may trigger health issues for your practitioner or for other clients. Therefore, I strive to be scent neutral and to use natural products in my practice.
Please refrain from wearing scented products (lotion/perfume/cologne/etc) and avoid smoking cigarettes immediately prior to your appointment. Please also consider your body odors. A shower or change of clothing following strenuous exercise or intense physical activity is recommended prior to your appointment. I understand if this is not able to happen every time, but do your best to be considerate both of your practitioner and of other clients.
Massage can do damage to your body if you cannot feel your body! Therefore, it is important to refrain from using mind-altering substances (including recreational drugs and alcohol) before coming to your appointment. Please inform me of current medications and any lack of sensation due to them. Even using over-the-counter can lower your sensitivity to my touch. It is never my intention to do harm or to cause you pain.
I offer therapeutic, non-sexual massage. Any conduct or requests of a sexual nature will not be tolerated. If this boundary is crossed, your session will end and you will be expected to pay for your full session. I will respect your physical and emotional boundaries and will hold my own throughout our time together. Please give me feedback if anything feels inappropriate or unprofessional to you. I will do the same.
If client or therapist feels unsafe at any time, the session will be ended. I reserve the right to refuse services.
Payment will be collected at the end of the session in the form of cash, card or check. You may also pay online when booking an appointment. Tips are appreciated but NOT expected.
Scope of Practice
By law I cannot diagnosis, perform chiropractic adjustments, or give medical advice outside of my license. Appropriate referrals will be made if necessary. If you have a medical issue that I am less knowledgeable of, I may ask for a doctor’s note or to speak to your doctor on the phone prior to our appointment.
Please note: I am always willing to discuss anything that relates to your treatment and wellness session. Be an active participant in our time together! This is your body and your time. I respect both.
Ask questions about anything you don’t understand. Make your wishes known. And let me know if you are uncomfortable at any time. If you are unsatisfied with your care, please inform me as soon as possible. We will discuss options and address any issues together.
A Note about Pain
Whether you feel any pain during the session depends on many factors. It is never my intention to cause pain. Tense muscles are often sore and may hurt a little when massaged. Sometimes physical pain, especially if it is prolonged, is an indication that emotional or spiritual trauma is being stored in a particular part of your body.
As a Reiki Practitioner and a Spiritual Counselor, I may be led to an area of your body that you were not aware was holding these traumas. My intention is to bring awareness, healing and balance. Sometimes painful memories or experiences may arise during your Massage or Reiki Session. We can always pause the session or draw it to a close if this is the case. Please discuss any concerns with me before the our time together, and give me feedback during your session.
Sometimes there is a delayed soreness after a massage. This can be likened to the feeling after a good work-out and will usually dissipate within a day or two. Taking a hot shower or bath and drinking plenty of water after your massage will help to remove waste products that are flushed out during your massage.
Conversation between therapist and client is under strict confidentiality. Except in cases where reporting is mandatory by law, our conversation and your health history will not be shared with anyone unless I am explicitly given permission by you to do so. An example of when information may be shared is to coordinate care with your other healthcare professionals with your written permission.
A Note about Energy and Spirit
Song of the Dancing Heart, LLC offers Massage Therapy, Reiki Sessions, Spiritual Counsel sessions and Community Circles around Fire or with Drumming. Each is a distinct, yet complimentary service for holistic health and wellness. The movement of energy and spirit are essential to my holistic practice.
Since I am a Reiki practitioner, you may notice a warmth or relaxing sensation when my hands linger around an area that seems to be needing a little extra attention. Please let me know if you have any aversion to this technique being used. I often incorporate Reiki into the opening or closing of my massage sessions to aid in relaxation and release of physical or emotional tension. Please ask any questions or feel free to discuss what you notice during these times.
This is Your Body, Your Spirit and Your Time
Thank you for inviting me to partner with you in your holistic care! During our time together, please help me to be aware of your needs. Please let me know if any part of our work together makes you feel uncomfortable or if you find that a certain area of body or spirit is in need of a little more attention or a little less.
Massage, Reiki and Spiritual Counsel can be very helpful in giving us the ability to express our needs. You are always encouraged to express yourself in the safe environment of my healing space. I am here to partner with you along your journey towards wellness of body, mind and spirit. Let us work together to re-discover our harmony in the Song of the Dancing Heart!
